REGISTRATION & APPLICATION FORMS

Below are our registration forms for you to let us know the various ways you can participate this year.  This includes any volunteers, theme camps, artworks or talks/workshops/performances that you are keen to bring to the paddock.

It's recommended for you to let us know in advance so that our various teams can make sure you are looked after.  Without this you risk not being placed in the best spots and possibly not being able to showcase your full expression.

So what are you waiting for, submit your grand ideas today!  Click on the boxes below to start your application.

VOLUNTEER REGISTRATION OPEN FEB '24

At Modifyre, everyone is part of the crew.  If you are helping in any way with the event you will need to complete a form to ensure we have your details and aren't left off the list.

Want to share something with everyone but haven't got a place to hold space?  Well our civic centre, The Heart, is the place for you!  The Heart provides a space for anyone wanting to hold any workshops or talks.  Registration isn't necessary but allows you to be included in our event guide. The 2023 Event Guide, Survival Guide and Green Your Burn, and Theme Camp Guide will be coming soon

Important Info

MODIFYRE IS BUILT AROUND SELF-SUFFICIENCY.

You must bring everything you need to survive for six days in an area prone to cold, wet, sun, mud, wind (and cows!). This means enough water, food, adequate shelter, and clothing, for you and all your dependents.

There are no vendors at Modifyre - you need to bring all the things. Tickets & photo ID are also pretty important.

YOU SHOULD PLAN TO STAY ONSITE FOR THE DURATION OF THE EVENT AND PREPARE SUPPLIES ACCORDINGLY IN ADVANCE.

These are conditions of entry and everyone in your vehicle must meet them. If the Gate crew deems anyone insufficiently prepared, you will be refused entry until you have returned from the nearest town (Tara is 20 minutes away) with adequate supplies.

AT MODIFYRE, WE UNDERSTAND THAT EVERYONE HAS DIFFERENT SCALING NEEDS.

It’s perfectly Radically Self-Reliant to organise the assistance that you need before the event, whether it’s camping facilities, accessibility assistance or emotional support, to make your burn more comfortable and enjoyable.

While Radical Self-Reliance is a key principle to make sure we don’t take advantage of others’ generosity, it works best when balanced with Communal Effort and Inclusivity.

TICKETS ARE THE KEY TO CREATING MODIFYRE.
EVERYONE BUYS ONE, INCLUDING OUR PRODUCTION TEAM.

Modifyre - Extra 04.png
Modifyre - Extra 11.png
This is in an effort to promote crowd-creation over commercialisation. There are no sponsors or corporate production companies. There's just you, me, our collective resources, and our endless imaginations.

Your ticket purchase is the baseline to participation at Modifyre. There is no free entry for artists and performers, no passes for media, or special discounts for volunteer crew. You can read about any (minimal) exemptions in our ticketing policy.

WHAT DOES TICKET MONEY GO TOWARDS?

Without sponsorship or commercial activity, our margins are pretty darn small.  Now that we have a place to call home into the future, our profits will be directed towards maintaining the land, building key infrastructure that our community can enjoy for years to come and regeneration of natural flora and fauna for the enjoyment of the local wildlife.

Our finances are handled entirely by our parent organisation BURN Arts inc., which is a registered not-for-profit. For transparency, our finances are published here.

RESALES THROUGH TIXEL

Tixel is the only place to buy or sell Modifyre tickets.

TO RESELL YOUR TICKET

Go to tixel.com/sell and follow the prompts.

If you’ve already found a buyer for your ticket but want to complete the transaction officially and safely, you can create a private sale by selecting the ‘make my listing private’ option at the final step.

You can only sell your ticket for what you paid for it (cost +booking fee). There’s an option to add 4% to cover tixel fees, but it’s up to the seller if they wish do this.

Please note, for security reasons, you’ll receive your payment from Tixel once the event is live - it will not happen immediately. This is to prevent duplicates and scammers.

FAQ's

HERE ARE SOME OF
THE FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS WE OFTEN GET IN THE LEAD UP TO THE EVENT

WHAT SHOULD I BRING?

Modifyre is an exercise in self-sufficiency. You have to bring everything you need to survive, and then some. Some people bring only the basics; others bring everything including the kitchen sink. Please take a look at our Survival Guide for all the information you need.

After that, everything else is up to you. For maximum enjoyment of the event, bring toys or outfits! with which you can express your creative spirit.

CAN I COME IN JUST FOR THE DAY?

Modifyre is an experiment in temporary community. Meeting neighbours and forming relationships is a fundamental part of the experience. This is not a spectator event.

In order to experience the essence of the burn, you will want to become part of the community. It is difficult to take a role in the community if you are at the event for less than 24 hours.

Therefore, there are no day passes sold, and no discounts based on your length of stay. You are still welcome to attend for just a portion of the event, however you will pay a full ticket price.

CAN I DRIVE ON SITE?

You can drive to your camping spot onsite. Once parked & set up, no vehicle movement will be allowed on site (except site and emergency vehicles). This is a very important stipulation of our conditions from the landowner, as well as common sense for the safety of all participants during the event.

WHAT IS A THEME CAMP?

It’s an immersive interactive experience designed one group of participants for the benefit of others. More information can be found in the Theme Camp section on the website. Theme Camps are located all over the site and host events at all different times of day and night. Some gift food, some do dance classes, and some crank whopper tunes.

Assigned placement comes after approved advanced registration. Though registration is not at all required, only registered Theme Camps will be cited on the city map.

You can freecamp if you're not part of a Theme Camp.

CAN I PLAY ON THE MAIN STAGE?

Modifyre is not a festival. The event organisers do not provide dedicated performance stages, sound systems or venues. By the same token, we do not curate or take applications for a programme of music or other performance.

The exception to this is The Heart, our civic centre, where a small stage & PA are provided, suitable for presentations, workshops, discussions, performances and acoustic music. You can sign up to play The Heart via our registration form, or just rock up at the event and put your event on the whiteboard.

If you are a DJ or musician, we recommend you get in touch with one of our Theme Camps, many of whom run world class sound systems. You will still be required to purchase a ticket.

WHEN'S THE LINEUP ANNOUNCEMENT?

See the question above. We do not publish any lineup of acts. An Event Guide containing all the happenings and events (including music) is distributed to every participant upon arrival.

I HAVE SOME HANDMADE CRAFTS THAT I WOULD LIKE TO SELL IN ORDER TO COVER MY TRAVEL COSTS. WHERE CAN I SET THIS UP?

There is no vending at Modifyre. Participants who are found vending /selling will be asked to leave. Modifyre flourishes through sharing, and the giving of the gift of yourself. We have found the buying and selling of goods is a distraction to connecting and creating relationships.

WHEN ARE THE BURN NIGHTS?

The effigy burn is held on the Saturday night. This is a raucous celebration of life and all the goodness that participating in a burn brings. The temple burn is a more contemplative event - a reflection on what has been, what will be, those we've lost etc. The temple burn is held on the Sunday night and to go with the solace of the temple burn, we ask that all participants respect the burn in silence.

HOW IS THE WEATHER ON SITE?

As the event is held in mid-winter it can get quite cold. Expect temperatures ranging from just zero degrees overnight to 10-15 degrees during the day. Prepare for rainfall.

HOW MUCH IS IT FOR A HAMBURGER?

Modifyre is a commerce-free event. You need to bring ALL supplies, food, water and tools you will need for survival in a harsh environment. No food or sundry items are sold anywhere at the event. If you're lucky though, somebody might just be whipping up that burger right as you walk past.

If you forget something vital, your best bet is to make friends with your neighbours.

CAN I RESERVE A CAMPSITE?

No. While there are marked roadways, there are no “camping sites,” other than the spaces previously allotted for pre-placed theme camps and art installations. Those awarded placement have applied in advance. Come early if you need space to add friends.

WHY SHOULD I REGISTER MY ART/ THEME CAMP?

We endeavour to place all registered Theme Camps, who will then be mapped and assigned a space prior to arrival on the site. The same goes for art installations on the paddock. Therefore, it is best to register your Theme Camp or art installation. Registration is not a prerequisite for creating an art installation or Theme Camp — it just helps us to help you, by planning and preparing for your work.

Registration is essential if your art / Theme Camp involves fire or amplified sound.

IS THERE AMPLIFIED MUSIC AT MODIFYRE?

Amplified music is a favoured method of participation and self-expression at Modifyre, and one that influences a large number of people. We ask that amplified music in camps be kept at a reasonable level.

Large scale sound art/systems MUST register for placement.

Sound systems should be no bigger than 300 watts for regular theme camps. Sound levels produced by any electronic system or device should not exceed 90 decibels at the edge of a camp or village.

Sound levels emitted from any camp should not cause serious disruption to adjacent camps.

WHERE IS THE DOOF THIS YEAR?

Modifyre is not a doof. It's is an experiment in temporary community, and one that is all-inclusive of doofers and non-doofers alike. We do, however, hold a special fondness for the word "doofers".

CAN I BRING MY DOG?

Pets/animals are not allowed at Modifyre, service dogs excepted. Please let us know beforehand by emailing info@modifyre.org if you’re bringing a service dog, to help us make preparations and let the gate crew know.

DO YOU HAVE A DRUG + ALCOHOL POLICY?

Sure do! Check out all of our policies here

WHAT'S THE ACCESSIBILITY LIKE?

We welcome people with diverse abilities at Modifyre! In terms of mobility, we set up in under a fortnight in a blank paddock every year. Bumps, mud and spiky things are real limitations. However, Modifyre is a fairly concentrated event geographically, with many places to stop in and take a break.

We do offer free tickets for those holding a companion card, and service animals are allowed on site. Please email info@modifyre.org if you’d like to know more. For a more in-depth run-down on accessibility, please check out our Survival Guide.

WHEN CAN I ARRIVE/LEAVE?

We'd love to see your bright shiny selves from midday Wednesday. Please don't arrive earlier as we need that time to get set up.
We ask that you vacate your camp - leaving it super squeaky clean (as squeaky clean as a paddock can get) - by midday Monday. We know you won't want to go back to the default world but we'll be back for another burn adventure next year!

If your question is not answered here, or in the      information pages of this website, please get in touch!
