CC's COCOON FOR TRANSIET BUGS

Are you flying in and need camping gear?

Our lovely CC will be hosting the Home for Wayward Boys and Girls. She can provide space in a tent, an air mattress and a sleeping bag, as well as a basic kitchen set up.

First in best dressed - there are 3 spots left!

Please get in touch with CC at mrscarolmchugh@gmail.com.

SIMPLIFYRE is basically a no-frills version of Modifyre - because sometimes, less is more. After a hiatus since 2021 (the unforgettable Mudifyre year), we’re dialling things back and focusing on what truly matters - community engagement.

Simplifyre isn’t about reinventing the wheel; it’s about reigniting the spark. Our goal is to revive the community spirit that makes burns unforgettable and give you a space to reconnect with the inspiration and energy that drives us all.

With that said, there is some information below with an appropriate link. Please have a read and submit your interest in any and all that tickles your fancy!

Thank you for the support, see you on the Galloping Flats!

THE HEART SPACE

At the centre of camp you'll find the Heart Space – our community hub where ideas bloom, creativity flows, and connections spark like wildfire.

This is your space to offer workshops, talks, music, games, poetry, dance, or even naps.

Got something to share? The Heart is calling.

There’ll be a chalkboard for spontaneous sign-ups on site, but if you’ve got a vision already brewing, grab a time slot now.

Theme camps can also host takeovers in the Heart Space instead of running separate sound camps. It’s a shared stage and all are welcome.

ACCESSIBILITY

The site is flat and grassy — just like its name: Galloping Flats.

If you have accessibility needs or hold a Companion Card, please email us ahead of time at info@modifyre.org so we can support you and ensure smooth entry.

We’ve got you.

FAQs

Arrival, Departure & Camping

WHERE IS THE DOOF THIS YEAR?

Simplifyre is not a doof. It's an experiment in a temporary community, and one that is all-inclusive of doofers and non-doofers alike. We do, however, hold a special fondness for the word "doofers".

WHEN CAN I ARRIVE/LEAVE?

We'd love to see your bright shiny selves from 9am Friday. Please don't arrive earlier as we need that time to get set up.
We ask that you vacate your camp - leaving it super squeaky clean (as squeaky clean as a paddock can get) - by Sunday afternoon. We know you won't want to go back to the default world but we'll be back for another burn adventure next year!

CAN I DRIVE ON SITE?

You can drive to your camping spot onsite. Once parked & set up, no vehicle movement will be allowed on site (except site and emergency vehicles). This is a very important stipulation of our conditions from the landowner, as well as common sense for the safety of all participants during the event.

CAN I RESERVE A CAMPSITE?

No. While there are marked roadways, there are no “camping sites,” other than the spaces previously allotted for pre-placed theme camps and art installations. Those awarded placement have applied in advance. Come early if you need space to add friends.

Preparation & What to Bring

WHAT SHOULD I BRING?

Modifyre is an exercise in self-sufficiency. You have to bring everything you need to survive, and then some. Some people bring only the basics; others bring everything including the kitchen sink. Please take a look at our Survival Guide for all the information you need.

After that, everything else is up to you. For maximum enjoyment of the event, bring toys or outfits! with which you can express your creative spirit.

HOW IS THE WEATHER ON SITE?

As the event is held in mid-winter it can get quite cold. As much as we manifest clear sunny skies, prepare for rain because it’s better to be safe than sorry..

HOW MUCH IS IT FOR A HAMBURGER?

Modifyre is a commerce-free event. You need to bring ALL supplies, food, water and tools you will need for survival in a harsh environment. No food or sundry items are sold anywhere at the event. If you're lucky though, somebody might just be whipping up that burger right as you walk past. If you forget something vital, your best bet is to make friends with your neighbours.

Theme Camps & Art Installations

WHAT IS A THEME CAMP?

It’s an immersive interactive experience designed by one group of participants for the benefit of others. More information can be found in the Theme Camp section on the website. Theme Camps are located all over the site and host events at all different times of day and night. Some gift food, some do dance classes, and some crank whopper tunes.

Assigned placement comes after approved advanced registration. Though registration is not at all required, only registered Theme Camps will be cited on the city map.

You can freecamp if you're not part of a Theme Camp.

WHY SHOULD I REGISTER MY ART/ THEME CAMP?

We endeavour to place all registered Theme Camps, who will then be mapped and assigned a space prior to arrival on the site. The same goes for art installations on the paddock. Therefore, it is best to register your Theme Camp or art installation. Registration is not a prerequisite for creating an art installation or Theme Camp — it just helps us to help you, by planning and preparing for your work.

Registration is essential if your art / Theme Camp involves fire or amplified sound.

Performance, Music & Events

IS THERE AMPLIFIED MUSIC AT SIMPLIFYRE?

Amplified music is a favoured method of participation and self-expression at Simplifyre, and one that influences a large number of people. We ask that amplified music in camps be kept at a reasonable level.

Large scale sound art/systems MUST register for placement.

Sound systems should be no bigger than 300 watts for regular theme camps. Sound levels produced by any electronic system or device should not exceed 90 decibels at the edge of a camp or village.

Sound levels emitted from any camp should not cause serious disruption to adjacent camps

CAN I PLAY ON THE MAIN STAGE?

Simplifyre is not a festival. The event organisers do not provide dedicated performance stages, sound systems or venues. By the same token, we do not curate or take applications for a programme of music or other performance.

The exception to this is The Heart, our civic centre, where a small stage & PA are provided, suitable for presentations, workshops, discussions, performances and acoustic music. You can sign up to play The Heart via our registration form, or just rock up at the event and put your event on the whiteboard.

If you are a DJ or musician, we recommend you get in touch with one of our Theme Camps, many of whom run world class sound systems. You will still be required to purchase a ticket.
WHEN'S THE LINEUP ANNOUNCEMENT?

See the question above. We do not publish any lineup of acts. An Event Guide containing all the happenings and events (including music) is distributed to every participant upon arrival.

WHEN ARE THE BURN NIGHTS?

The effigy burn is held on Saturday night. This is a raucous celebration of life and all the goodness that participating in a burn brings. Due to the short duration of the event, there will be no Temple burn which usually happens on Sunday. We will most likely transition from the energy of the effigy burn into a more reflective burn once the main structure has collapsed to create a warm an introspective space.

Policies & Community Guidelines

CAN I COME IN JUST FOR THE DAY?

Simplifyre is an experiment in a temporary community. Meeting neighbours and forming relationships is a fundamental part of the experience. This is not a spectator event.

In order to experience the essence of the burn, you will want to become part of the community. It is difficult to take a role in the community if you are at the event for less than 24 hours.

Therefore, there are no day passes sold, and no discounts based on your length of stay. You are still welcome to attend for just a portion of the event, however you will pay a full ticket price.

CAN I BUY/SELL/TRADE THINGS AT SIMPLIFYRE?

There is no exchange of money for goods and services at Simplifyre. Participants who are found selling will be asked to leave. Simplifyre flourishes through sharing, and the giving of the gift of yourself. We have found the buying and selling of goods is a distraction to connecting and creating relationships.

CAN I BRING MY DOG?

Pets/animals are not allowed at Simplifyre, service dogs excepted. Please let us know beforehand by emailing info@modifyre.org if you’re bringing a service dog, to help us make preparations and let the gate crew know.

DO YOU HAVE A DRUG + ALCOHOL POLICY?

Sure do! Check out all of our policies here.

WHAT'S THE ACCESSIBILITY LIKE?

We welcome people with diverse abilities at Simplifyre! In terms of mobility, the Galloping Flats are as the name suggests, flat. However we can not account for rain and what challenges that brings for mobility.

We do offer free tickets for those holding a companion card, and service animals are allowed on site. Please email info@modifyre.org if you’d like to know more. For a more in-depth run-down on accessibility, please check out our Survival Guide.

CAN I BRING A FIRE PIT?

No. There will be ample fire pits located around the site that have been pre-approved by the organisers and land owner. Any unauthorised fires will be put out.

BURN Arts Inc. and the Modifyre community wish to acknowledge the Traditional Custodians of the Country
