Rangers are part of the core community infrastructure of Modifyre. We are communicators, mediators of public safety, and providers of information. We are NOT security and we are NOT law enforcement! Rangers are simply members of the community and participants at the event who have a strong sense of civic responsibility and who wish to gift our time to ensure everyone stays safe whilst having a good time.
You will spend your time roaming the event, checking in on your fellow participants, helping people when in need, acting as peaceful mediators if conflict arises, and assisting other departments such as Medics, Fire Safety, and DIC. You will also man the perimeter for our two large effigy burns - one of the most exciting and rewarding jobs of the entire event.
Rangers operate 24 hours throughout the event. You will be expected to undertake at least two four-hour shifts.
You are expected to remain alert and sober for the duration of your shift.
Training will be provided to all volunteers and is mandatory prior to your first Ranger shift. Dates, times, and locations for training will be provided upon receipt of your application.
The most important qualification for being a Ranger is the desire to be an interactive participant. Other helpful qualities include a sense of humor, flexibility, and a good pair of walking shoes.
Previous participation at Modifyre or other burn events is preferable. If you are new to burner culture, we ask that you familiarise yourself with and act in accordance with the principles that underline these events.
Note: Any technical skills a person may or may not have are secondary to a desire to help fellow participants. Ranger training and mentoring are designed to help develop the skills that are needed on the paddock. As our community grows, so does our need for Rangers. Come participate with us!
